 Hate Crime in Bnei Brak: Woman Who Snipped Haredi Boy’s Peiyos Captured by Police

Police have arrested a 33-year-old woman for cutting the sidecurls (peiyos) of a 10-year-old Haredi boy in Bnei Brak. Charged with assault and insulting religion, the suspect was caught after the disturbing footage went viral.

Israel Police have arrested a 33-year-old woman in connection with a disturbing incident in Bnei Brak that sparked widespread outrage across the country. The suspect, a resident of Modi'in Illit, was taken into custody following the viral circulation of footage showing her cutting the peyot (sidecurls) of a young Haredi boy.

The Incident

The assault took place on Jerusalem Street in Bnei Brak. According to reports from Kikar HaShabbat, the incident began when a ball the 10-year-old boy was playing with accidentally struck the woman.

In a shocking retaliatory move captured on video, the suspect approached the child with scissors and abruptly cut off one of his sidecurls. The young boy was filmed running home in tears immediately following the attack.

Investigators from the Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan station opened an inquiry immediately after the complaint was filed and the footage surfaced. The suspect was located earlier today and brought in for questioning.

She is currently facing charges of unlawful assault and insulting religion.

The documentation of the event, first highlighted on the program "Hayom B’Kikar," caused a massive storm on social media and within the Haredi community, with many calling for swift justice against what was described as a hateful and traumatic act against a minor.

The police spokesperson noted that they acted quickly to identify and locate the suspect to address the severity of the religious insult and the physical assault on a child.
