Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Kalmanson, Rosh Yeshiva of Lubavitch New Haven and author of Reshimos Shiurim, passed away on Rosh Hashana. A beloved educator who impacted thousands.

Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Kalmanson, the longtime Rosh Yeshiva of the Lubavitch Yeshiva of New Haven and a revered scholar, passed away suddenly on the first day of Rosh Hashana 5786 (September 24, 2025) at age 70.
A native of Montmorency, France, Rabbi Kalmanson studied at the Brunoy Yeshiva and maintained a lifelong connection to the Lubavitcher Rebbe. In 1977, he established the New Haven yeshiva, dedicating his life to mentoring generations of students with clarity and warmth.
He was also the author of Reshimos Shiurim on Gemara, influential volumes widely studied across the yeshiva world, which he wrote with the Rebbe's encouragement.
Poignantly, he visited the Ohel (the Rebbe's resting place) just hours before the holiday began.
Rabbi Kalmanson is survived by his wife, Hindy, their children, and siblings. The funeral procession passed 770 Eastern Parkway before his burial near the Ohel. He is remembered as a devoted educator, scholar, and chassid whose impact touched thousands.
