Yair Golan, chairman of The Democrats party, appeared at the Gabrieli School in Tel Aviv alongside Mayor Ron Huldai on Sunday to rally voters ahead of the 2026 elections, pledging to extend the Tel Aviv municipal model to the entire country.

"What Ron Huldai has done here in Tel Aviv, we will do across all of Israel," Golan told supporters. "Freedom of religion and freedom from religion. We will restore solidarity to our society. Truth at the ballot box."

The appearance marks an intensification of campaigning by left-wing parties as the election cycle begins in earnest, with Golan seeking to mobilize secular voters in Israel's largest city by promising to replicate its governance approach, which has emphasized separation of religion and state, public transport on Shabbat, and municipal autonomy on religious affairs, on a national scale.

Right-wing parties, meanwhile, are expressing concern over turnout rates in left-wing strongholds. Otzma Yehudit released a campaign video warning of the consequences should the left return to power, saying that the election is a choice between competing visions for Israel's character and governance.
