A 48 year-old bus driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries on Sunday following a violent assault in Beit Shemesh.

Police investigators determined that a verbal dispute had broken out between the driver and the teenage passenger. According to the allegations, the confrontation turned physical when the suspect spat at the driver and then struck him with his fists. The assault left the driver requiring medical attention at a local hospital.

According to police reports, officers from the Beit Shemesh station responded to an emergency call about an altercation on a bus. When they arrived at the scene, the suspect had already fled. Emergency medical personnel treated the injured driver before transporting him to a hospital for further care.

Following the attack, Beit Shemesh police launched an investigation to locate the suspect who had left the scene. Officers successfully tracked down the 15-year-old in Jerusalem. He was taken into custody and brought to the Beit Shemesh police station for questioning.

Police are expected to bring the suspect before a court today to request an extension of his detention as the investigation continues.
