Kuwaiti air defense forces intercepted multiple hostile Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles targeting military installations and critical infrastructure across the country on Friday. The Ministry of Defense confirmed that while all incoming drones were successfully destroyed before reaching their targets, falling shrapnel and interception debris caused material damage to several structures.
Military officials reported that defensive systems identified and engaged the drone swarm in the early morning hours. Kuwait Defense Ministry spokesman Saud Abdul-Aziz Al-Atwan confirmed the interception, providing details on the engagement and the resulting impact on ground facilities.
"Army forces identified several hostile unmanned aerial vehicles inside Kuwaiti airspace this morning, and they were destroyed," spokesman Saud Abdul-Aziz Al-Atwan stated. "The failed Iranian attack was directed at several vital and military facilities. Following the interceptions, material damage was caused by falling shrapnel, but without any human injuries."
The Defense Ministry emphasized that armed forces maintain full operational readiness across all sectors to safeguard national territory. Military leadership affirmed that Kuwait retains complete authority to take all necessary measures to protect national sovereignty and maintain domestic security.
"The army confirms its commitment to executing its duties and responsibilities with high efficiency," the official statement continued. "Kuwait reserves its right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and maintain the security and stability of the country, in cooperation with relevant authorities while preserving the safety of citizens and residents."
The drone engagement marks the second consecutive day of Iranian strikes launched against Kuwaiti territory. On Thursday, Iranian missiles struck a building belonging to a Chinese firm in northern Kuwait, resulting in the death of one worker and extensive damage to the facility.
According to operational assessments provided to Agence France-Presse, defense forces throughout the Gulf region remain on elevated alert status to counter persistent cross border drone and missile threats targeting civilian and energy infrastructure.
