The Saudi-led coalition announced on Tuesday night that it had brought down three missiles and two drones launched from Yemen by the Houthis, the Iran-backed militia, at Riyadh and at Saudi Aramco's headquarters in Dhahran. A source with direct knowledge of the incident told Reuters that the headquarters was struck despite the interceptions. The source added that it was not yet clear whether the building took a direct hit or was struck by falling debris.
Loud explosions rang out near the Dhahran complex before the coalition announced the interceptions. The building caught fire, and an evacuation order was issued. The coalition said missile fragments came down in a nearby residential area.
Aramco has issued no official comment and has not confirmed that its headquarters was hit.
Saudi Civil Defense sounded an early warning for the kingdom's eastern province earlier on Tuesday. It sent out a second alert for Riyadh shortly after the interceptions over Dhahran, and a loud boom was then heard in the Saudi capital.
