Uncertainty is gripping Bnei Brak's education system just weeks before the new school year begins, as the municipality considers restructuring how it employs approximately 1,200 educational and medical aides.
Under the proposal being examined, classroom assistants, including those providing medical support, pedagogical assistance, and one-on-one care, would shift from direct municipal employment under collective bargaining agreements to employment through nonprofit organizations affiliated with the city's schools and seminaries.
The potential change has drawn opposition from the workers' committee and the Histadrut labor federation, while also raising alarm among parents whose children require constant medical supervision during school hours.
