Iran Claims Hormuz Control Agreement

Revolutionary Guards announce deal with Oman on dividing control of strategic waterway, asserting 'full sovereignty' over shipping route despite U.S. opposition

Trump and Khamenei

A spokesman for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement claiming that Tehran and Muscat have reached understandings on dividing shipping lanes and control of the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement contradicts American and regional demands for the unconditional reopening of the strategic waterway.

According to Revolutionary Guards sources, Iran and Oman have arrived at a series of agreements, though Oman has not publicly or officially confirmed the details. Among the reported understandings is a plan for both countries to collect fees and payments in exchange for allowing nations and companies to use the strait.

Earlier reports indicated that Iran had previously demanded absolute control over all traffic entering and exiting the strait, requiring complete coordination of all vessels moving through the waterway with Tehran's security apparatus.

Such demands, if implemented, would likely provoke the anger of President Trump, who has made clear he will not accept fees on movement through Hormuz.

Apparently anticipating this response, the Revolutionary Guards announced that if the agreement is not respected by the United States, "the strait will remain closed."

An IRGC spokesman explained: "Iran exposed the strategic vulnerability of the United States during the 'Ramadan War,' we revealed the failure of its advanced technology and missile stockpiles. The U.S. must accept our decision."
