A routine traffic disagreement on a Tel Aviv street escalated into a vicious assault captured on security cameras, with the attacker later attempting to buy his victim's silence with cash.
A 29-year-old Bat Yam resident has been indicted on serious charges after surveillance footage documented him attacking another driver with punches and a knife on Yesod HaMa'aleh Street in Tel Aviv, then returning to the scene to hand the victim money and plead with him not to involve police.
The incident occurred on September 11, when a brief argument between two vehicles over right-of-way quickly deteriorated into extreme violence in full view of passersby.
The security video shows vehicles stopped in the crowded urban street when doors suddenly fly open and a violent altercation erupts between the drivers near the parked cars. The footage clearly captures the suspect exiting his vehicle and aggressively attacking the other driver, landing hard punches and drawing a knife that threatened the victim's life. The commotion immediately drew the attention of others in the area, and within seconds several people and security personnel gathered at the scene, attempting to separate the combatants and calm the situation while the stunned victim tried to defend himself from the blows and stabbing attempts.
Despite the severity of his actions, the incident continued to develop in a disturbing manner even after tempers appeared to cool. According to the police investigation and findings, after the violent attack left the victim with real injuries requiring medical treatment, the suspect was not satisfied and returned to the victim once more. This time, according to the charges, he approached him in an attempt to obstruct justice, physically handed him a sum of cash, and demanded that he not contact police or file an official complaint that would implicate him criminally.
Despite the attempt to bribe the victim and silence the affair, officers from the Ayalon District's Sharat station immediately launched an intensive and swift investigation upon receiving the report at the 100 emergency center. Officers who arrived at the scene located the suspect, the 29-year-old Bat Yam resident, arrested him for questioning, and seized the knife he allegedly used during the attack. The suspect's detention was extended repeatedly in court as the investigation progressed, and this past weekend the police investigation matured into a full indictment filed by the Tel Aviv District Police Prosecution Unit, accompanied by an unequivocal request to keep the suspect behind bars until the completion of legal proceedings against him.
