Trump: Iran Will Not Have Nuclear Weapons

President Donald Trump declared early Tuesday morning (Israel time) that his administration will not allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons, and that he would hold meetings on the matter later in the day. The statement came as Washington intensifies economic pressure on Tehran, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatens to widen the conflict.

Speaking with reporters following a meeting with New York City Mayor Zuhran Mamdani, Trump stated: "They will not have nuclear weapons. Let's put it that way...and they're not in good shape. I'll have meetings on this today."

Alongside the president's remarks, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States may impose harsher sanctions on Iran beginning September 23. According to reports, the move is aimed at targeting Iranian aviation as part of ongoing pressure on the Tehran regime.

The sanctions escalation comes against a backdrop of sustained tensions between Washington and Tehran. Yesterday brought reports that a planned American strike against the Houthis in Yemen, an Iranian-backed organization, had been called off due to concerns about opening an additional front with Tehran.

The IRGC responded with sharp threats. Revolutionary Guard spokesman Hussein Mohebi declared that in the event of another American attack on Iranian territory, Tehran would expand the conflict using weapons not yet deployed and strike targets that have not been hit until now. According to him, Iran would also change "the geography of the war."
