Forensic Report Complicates Dayan Case

Israel's forensic institute was unable to determine a definitive cause of death due to the condition of remains, potentially reducing charges against seven suspects from murder to assault

 Eldar Dayan BDE

Investigators from the Sharon District's Central Unit received the forensic report from the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine this afternoon regarding the circumstances of Eldar Dayan's death.

According to the report's findings, the condition of the remains discovered at the scene prevented forensic pathologists from establishing a definitive cause of death.

These findings are expected to have significant implications for the ongoing investigation and the charges that can be brought against the seven individuals currently detained in connection with the case. Following the medical determination, the two associates of Dayan who were arrested on suspicion of murder, along with five additional suspects, will likely face lesser charges including assault and causing grievous bodily harm rather than homicide.

Dayan's body was located three weeks ago after he was initially reported missing and search operations were conducted. Police officials have clarified that without concrete, conclusive evidence indicating the cause of death, there is a legal obstacle to charging the suspects with the more serious offense of unlawful killing.
