Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett launched a sharp attack against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his inner circle following an interview given by Sara Netanyahu, the prime minister's wife, on Channel 14. The interview has sparked controversy over accusations directed at senior security officials and public figures regarding the events of October 7th.
Bennett took to X (formerly Twitter) to defend Yair Golan, a former IDF deputy chief of staff who has become a political figure. "On the morning of 10/7, Yair Golan got in his car with a weapon and drove into the inferno. He risked his life to save lives," Bennett wrote. "Many other good people from across the country did the same, and they saved the State of Israel from a disaster ten times greater. The people of Israel owe all these heroes gratitude for generations".
Bennett then directly attacked the prime minister and his wife: "Netanyahu, his wife and those around him are spreading a sick, false and dangerous conspiracy against IDF and Shin Bet commanders and against Yair Golan".
The former prime minister outlined what he described as the policies that led to Hamas's empowerment and the national catastrophe. "The truth is simpler: for many years Netanyahu fed the Hamas monster with billions of dollars and contained the rockets, the balloons and the terror in order to buy quiet. Time after time he surrendered to Hamas threats and collapsed Israel's deterrence", Bennett wrote.
Bennett identified what he considers the turning point in Hamas's calculations: "The peak was his shameful capitulation on Jerusalem Day 2021 to Hamas threats, and the cancellation of the flag march. Minutes after his surrender, Hamas began firing rockets at Jerusalem, Israel's capital. That's when Sinwar decided in his heart to activate 'Al-Aqsa Flood.' The monster grew to enormous dimensions and on the morning of 10/7 attacked us. Netanyahu failed because of a conception that Hamas is an asset and Qatar is a partner".
Bennett concluded with a promise to establish a state commission of inquiry: "Netanyahu's attempt to rewrite history will not succeed. The state commission of inquiry that we will establish will investigate everything and expose the truth. Netanyahu bears direct responsibility for 13 years of building the terror monsters Hamas and Hezbollah and for the 10/7 massacre".
