The National Unity party leader sparked mockery and anger across the political spectrum after posting a photo of himself drinking coffee immediately after Yom Kippur ended
Benny Gantz, chairman of the National Unity party, set off another social media storm Monday night, and users across the political spectrum didn't hold back.
Gantz posted a photo of himself sipping black coffee as Yom Kippur ended, writing: "Lemon wafers to end the fast, nothing sweeter than this. Gmar Chatimah Tovah." The post exploded online, racking up thousands of likes and comments along with hundreds of shares.
Some users chose to roll with the joke and 'make lemonade out ot lemons'. "I swear I thought I was voting for you, but after this I just can't," one commenter wrote. Comedian Yevgeny Zarubinsky quipped: "That's it, even the last mandate is gone."
Other users seized the opportunity to attack Gantz sharply and call on him to exit the political arena. "You're endangering the bloc, just retire already," one wrote. Another added: "What, do you think we're idiots? We know you'll just go with Netanyahu again."
Later, Gantz posted another story with a photo of a sukkah, writing: "Think you have the coolest sukkah? Write to me and I'll come surprise you."
