Golan Backs Eisenkot for PM as Israeli Parties Detail New Candidates

The opposition landscape ahead of Israel's 2026 elections continues to take shape as party leaders signal coalition preferences and announce strategic campaign additions.

The chairman of The Democrats party, Yair Golan, announced that his party will support Gadi Eisenkot for prime minister.

"As things stand right now, Eisenkot will be the natural candidate", Golan said during his speech at a security conference, though he qualified his remarks by clarifying that the final decision depends on the results at the ballot box.

Golan emphasized the rule that he believes should guide the bloc: "Whoever leads the largest party in the bloc should lead the next government".

Eisenkot's New Recruit

Yashar party, headed by Gadi Eisenkot, announced the joining of social activist and social media influencer Eliana Sachs, who will manage the party's youth headquarters. Sachs (25), originally from Be'er Sheva and currently residing in Tel Aviv, has worked in marketing in recent years and until recently served as a business development manager at a high-tech company. During the missile attack on Be'er Sheva in Operation Am Kelavia, her mother, Michal, and her brother, Eitan, were killed by a direct hit from an Iranian missile on their home.

Eisenkot welcomed her joining: "Eliana is the Israel of today: determined, value-driven, and a right combination of action and spirit. Despite the painful loss she experienced, she chose to act, connect, and make an impact. The young people in Israel are not just the 'future', they have long been the present, and we need them with us."

Israel Beytenu New Addition

In another political development, the chairman of the Israel Air Line Pilots Association, Meidan Bar, announced he is joining "Israel Beytenu", led by Avigdor Liberman.Meidan Bar said : "Just like in the aviation world, the State of Israel today needs an experienced captain".
