The Israel Defense Forces released unusual footage Monday evening illustrating its efforts to distinguish between combatants and civilians during military operations in Gaza.
According to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit, the incident occurred during a planned strike targeting an operative from Hamas's military wing. As the munition was already in flight, surveillance detected a gathering of civilians near the intended target. Military personnel then redirected the weapon away from its original trajectory in real-time.
The IDF explained that once ordnance is deployed, it cannot be canceled mid-flight. Instead, operators diverted the munition from its path to prevent civilian casualties. The released video captures the precise moment of diversion, showing the projectile changing course while airborne.
"This incident demonstrates once again the IDF's commitment to distinguish between terrorists and civilians and to take all feasible precautions to minimize harm to them," the military spokesperson stated. The disclosure comes as Israeli forces continue targeted operations in Gaza aimed at removing immediate threats.
