New videos emerging from Yemen on Arabic social media reveal a significant development in the country's civil war: the Iranian-backed Houthi movement is losing territory to forces loyal to the internationally recognized government. The footage shows government troops advancing in key areas while local civilians openly challenge Houthi authority in scenes rarely witnessed during the conflict.

Forces aligned with Yemen's internationally recognized government, backed by Arab states and other international partners, have launched an unusually large-scale operation that has yielded substantial gains against Houthi positions. The rebels have been forced to withdraw from multiple strategic points in al-Jawf province.

According to reports from the ground, government forces executed a surprise offensive that caught Houthi defenses unprepared. After weeks of limited skirmishes and small-scale clashes between the sides, government troops launched a coordinated, large-scale raid on the province.

Al-Jawf province holds strategic importance as it sits along Yemen's northern border with Saudi Arabia, forming one of the Houthis' most critical defensive lines and an essential component of their control over the frontier region. Reports indicate that government forces successfully routed rebel troops and captured a series of bases and critical installations near the border area, then continued their advance southward into the province's interior.

The rapid Houthi retreat from the northern parts of the province appears to be triggering a swift collapse of the group's civilian control structures. Residents have already been documented vandalizing and destroying symbols of Houthi authority, suggesting the fear-based governance system the movement imposed is breaking down as its military presence recedes.
