Defense Minister Katz: "Clear Policy of Eliminating Threats"

IDF Strikes Hamas Commanders in Gaza Port

Israeli military targeted senior Hamas operatives in Shati refugee camp planning attacks on IDF forces; Palestinian sources report casualties at coastal café

The Israel Defense Forces struck several targets Tuesday evening in the Shati area near Gaza's port, targeting senior commanders from the Hamas terror organization. Palestinian sources reported seven fatalities and 14 wounded in the operation. An IDF spokesperson clarified that the strike was directed at operatives who were actively planning terror attacks against Israeli forces operating in the Gaza Strip.

According to Palestinian claims, the strike hit a café in the coastal area of Gaza City where "thousands of displaced persons were present" at the time. The IDF responded that "the terrorists were struck from the air in order to remove the threat to our forces." Published information indicates the eliminated operatives were actively involved in planning terror operations against IDF soldiers.

Defense Minister Israel Katz posted on X following the strike: "Israel's policy in Gaza, as clarified to the IDF by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and myself, is clear: removing threats, eliminating terrorists, and exacting a price from anyone who took part in the October 7 massacre. This is how the IDF operated today in eliminating Hamas terrorists, and this is how it will continue to act forcefully to protect our soldiers and ensure quiet in the southern communities, from within the security zone."

The strike comes against a backdrop of ongoing tensions around the Gaza border and follows an unusual incident several days ago in which intelligence indicated an irregular gathering of approximately 50 Hamas operatives near the border, but command officials declined to authorize a strike at that time.
