Shmuel's 'Lecha Levadcha' for High Holidays

The Israeli musician's latest track, produced by Maor Shoshan, offers a prayer for the month of Elul and the approaching High Holy Days

Singer Shmuel Releases New Single 'Lecha Levadcha' for Days of Repentance

Israeli singer-songwriter Shmuel has released a new single timed for the Jewish month of Elul and the approaching High Holy Days. The track, titled "Lecha Levadcha" ("To You Alone"), centers on the direct relationship between an individual and God, blending traditional prayer themes with contemporary musical production.

The song opens with the words "To You alone I have sinned and not to any angel / Between me and You is my judgment, God who is good and forgiving," establishing a tone of personal confession and supplication. Shmuel wrote both the lyrics and melody, drawing on Jewish liturgical tradition while addressing both individual spiritual yearning and collective concerns for the Jewish people. The composition moves between intimate prayer and broader appeals for healing and redemption.

'לך לבדך'

The lyrics emphasize the unmediated nature of the relationship with the Divine, a central theme during the Days of Repentance leading up to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Lines such as "Only before You, the God who judges the entire world favorably, may every living being be justified" express faith in divine mercy and the belief that God views His creations with compassion.

The song also reflects current challenges facing Israel and the Jewish people. One verse pleads: "Please God, have mercy on Your desolate house and send healing to Your land / Have mercy on my heavy body and my silent heart and my weary soul... for who will have mercy on Your children if not You?" Shmuel has become a prominent voice in Jewish music in recent years with hits including "Ten Li Tefillah" and "Nekudot," and this release continues his pattern of addressing deep spiritual themes.

Producer and arranger Maor Shoshan handled the musical production, creating a sound that balances traditional elements with modern accessibility. Shoshan, a sought-after figure in the Jewish music industry, crafted an arrangement that maintains the solemnity appropriate to the High Holiday season while keeping the song musically engaging.

"Lecha Levadcha" is part of Shmuel's upcoming debut album, scheduled for release in the Hebrew month of Kislev (late fall). He has recently released several successful tracks in advance of the full album, including "Ani Mevorach" and a duet with fellow artist Ishay Ribo titled "Kol Pa'am Mechadash," both of which have received significant radio airplay.
