Just hours before Iran's delegation arrives in New York for the UN General Assembly, Tehran is signaling its willingness to restart negotiations with the Americans. A senior Iranian official told Reuters that the Iranian delegation "has full authority" to begin fresh diplomatic proceedings with Washington.
According to the Iranian official, Tehran is capable of reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, provided the United States meets a series of conditions that have been laid out. The Iranian list of demands includes a formal U.S. declaration that it seeks a diplomatic solution, agreement on a defined timetable for progress in the process, easing of American military pressure, and removal of the naval blockade on Iranian ports.
