Israel Gaza Airstrikes: Two Strikes Within Hour Amid Talks

The Israeli Air Force conducted two significant airstrikes in the Gaza Strip within a single hour, according to reports from Gaza, marking a notable escalation after days of reduced Israeli military activity in the territory following American pressure.

The first strike targeted an area in Khan Younis, hitting what Israeli sources described as a gathering of several individuals. The airstrike wounded at least seven people, with one reported in critical condition. Less than an hour later, in an unusual move given the recent lull in operations, the air force carried out a second strike near the Sultan Mohammed tent camp, close to the Kuwaiti Hospital in the Mawasi area.

A third airstrike was reported shortly afterward, with Gaza residents saying an aircraft fired a missile that struck a building in the Nuseirat area.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement explaining the operations: "The IDF struck two terrorists from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas terror organizations. The terrorists were advancing terror plans and were struck from the air in order to remove the threat."

The timing of the strikes may be significant. Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to President Trump and his point person for advancing the administration's Gaza plan, is currently in the region holding meetings in Cairo on the matter. Kushner is expected to fly to Israel shortly, making the resumption of intensive airstrikes, despite reported American requests to lower the intensity of operations in Gaza, a potentially pointed message ahead of his arrival.
