Israeli Man Gets 30 Months for Assaulting Two Children

The Nof HaGalil District Court sentenced a man to 30 months in prison for committing serious offenses against two young boys. The attacks occurred on a single day in March 2025, approximately 50 minutes apart, when the defendant assaulted a 7-year-old boy near a synagogue and an 8-year-old boy on a nearby street.

In addition to the prison term, the court ordered the defendant to pay 5,000 shekels in compensation to each victim and imposed suspended sentences to prevent future offenses. Judge Hana Sabag ruled that despite the two separate locations, the proximity in time and similarities between the incidents warranted treating them as "a single legal event," though he noted that the multiple victims and acts would be reflected significantly in the sentencing range.

The first incident took place near a synagogue while the 7-year-old's father was praying inside. The defendant approached the boy, led him to a bathroom stall, and committed serious acts against him while applying pressure and preventing him from leaving. The boy called out to his father, and the defendant fled the scene.

Shortly afterward, on a nearby street, the defendant physically attacked an 8-year-old boy who happened to be in the area. He hit the child until the boy managed to break free. The verdict emphasized the severity of violating the autonomy and security of young children who cannot defend themselves, alongside the emotional impact that persisted for months afterward among the children and their families.

The court weighed several mitigating factors in determining the sentence. The defendant's early guilty plea, which spared the children the trauma of testifying in court, was taken into account. Additionally, the fact that the defendant had no prior criminal record influenced the ruling.

The defendant's personal and medical circumstances were also considered by the judge, including a medical diagnosis indicating cognitive limitations and judgment inconsistent with his age. After weighing all factors, the sentence was set at 30 months of actual imprisonment beginning from the day of his arrest, along with substantial compensation for the victims and suspended sentences to prevent recurrence of similar incidents in the future.
