"Yisrael Beiteinu" chairman MK Avigdor Liberman drew a clear red line Monday morning regarding his party's position on potential government formation scenarios following the upcoming elections. In an interview with Israel Defense Forces Radio, Liberman stated unequivocally that his faction would refuse to serve as a lifeline for any coalition lacking a full parliamentary majority.
"There will be no minority government" ,Liberman declared. "Whoever tries to swear in a government with 58 mandates - we simply won't be there".
The firm statement comes amid political speculation that the "Yashar" party, led by former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, might consider forming a government relying on external support or abstentions, potentially including from Arab parties, if no bloc secures the required 61 seats in Israel's 120 MK.
Liberman's remarks make clear in advance that any attempt to build such a fragile coalition is unacceptable to him, effectively shutting the door on minority government scenarios that would depend on his party's participation or acquiescence.
