A man in his 30s was killed early Tuesday morning after his vehicle apparently struck a horse while driving on Route 65 near Eilabun in the Lower Galilee.
The accident was reported to emergency dispatch at 5:57 a.m. Magen David Adom paramedics and EMTs who arrived at the scene found the man without vital signs and pronounced him dead.
MDA paramedic Farid Othman and senior EMT Moran Abu Shakara from MDA's motorcycle unit described what they encountered: "This was a very difficult scene. When we arrived, the driver was inside the vehicle suffering from severe injuries to his body. He was unconscious, with no pulse and no breathing.
"We performed medical checks, but his injuries were significant and we had no choice but to pronounce him dead at the scene."
Israel Police said in a statement: "A short time ago, a report was received about a traffic accident between a private vehicle and a horse on Route 65 near the Mitzpe Netofa interchange. As a result of the accident, the driver of the vehicle, whose identity is not yet known, was critically injured and was later pronounced dead.
"Northern District police officers and Israel Police traffic accident investigators arrived at the scene, are directing vehicle traffic, and have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident."
