Boy entered lake at Park HaDarom with friend who emerged safely; specialized rescue teams searched before civilian kayaker located him underwater
A six-year-old boy was rescued Friday afternoon from a lake at Park HaDarom (also known as Menachem Begin Park) in Tel Aviv after going missing in the water. The child had entered the lake on Biranit Street during midday hours and failed to resurface.
According to Israel Fire and Rescue Services for the Dan region, the boy went into the water alongside a friend. While his companion managed to exit the lake safely, the six-year-old remained submerged and did not emerge.
Specialized rescue units were immediately dispatched to the scene, including Lahava, the national unit for special rescue operations. Firefighters and the Yalam special rescue unit also joined the search effort in an attempt to locate the child as quickly as possible.
Fire and rescue officials reported that the search operation began at midday and continued without interruption, with teams systematically scanning the lake. The boy was ultimately located by a civilian who was kayaking on the lake. She pulled him from the water, and rescue teams evacuated him to a medical center while performing resuscitation. His condition was described as serious.
Park HaDarom, located in southern Tel Aviv, features lakes and open public spaces. The incident has raised significant concern, and families in the area are being urged to maintain close supervision of children near bodies of water.
