Jerusalem Railway Station Evacuation After Smoke Alert

Passengers at Jerusalem's Yitzhak Navon Railway Station experienced moments of alarm Thursday morning when smoke was spotted inside the facility. Passengers were urgently evacuated from the station as firefighters from the Uma district stations were dispatched to search the premises.

According to initial reports, the smoke was discovered during early morning hours by passengers waiting for trains. Security personnel acted swiftly to evacuate everyone from the station while maintaining order and preventing panic among those present.

Firefighting teams arriving at the scene inspected all of the sections of the station, working to locate the smoke's origin and ensure no danger to passengers. The searches continued for an extended period as crews examined all technical systems and infrastructure within the facility.

Officials reported that no fire source was found and the smoke appeared to have been caused by dust. The station received clearance to resume normal operations, and passengers began returning to the terminal.

Chief Superintendent Shmulik Friedman, Jerusalem District Commander for Israel Fire and Rescue Services, addressed the incident: "Railway stations are complex and crowded hubs where we must be prepared for any scenario, from fire and smoke incidents to complex emergency situations with mass casualties."

"Israel Fire and Rescue Services trains and drills regularly throughout station facilities to ensure rapid, professional, and coordinated response during actual events," Friedman added. "In this current incident as well, firefighters acted quickly and conducted thorough searches until the danger was ruled out. Advance preparation is what enables us to be ready at all times and protect public safety."
