A tragic off-road accident claimed the life of 21-year-old Meir Sher, a resident of Bnei Brak and a student at the Ponevezh Yeshiva, on Monday evening around 7:35 PM. The incident occurred in an open area near the community of Neve Erez, adjacent to Ma'ale Michmash, when the all-terrain vehicle he was operating flipped over under circumstances currently being investigated by authorities.
Sher, who had celebrated his engagement just last week, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel following extensive resuscitation attempts. A second passenger in the vehicle, a 21-year-old resident of Beitar Illit, sustained light injuries and was evacuated by Magen David Adom ambulance to Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus in Jerusalem.
First responders arriving at the remote location described a severe scene, with the vehicle overturned in the terrain and the driver unresponsive upon their arrival.
"When we arrived at the scene, the ATV rider was pulse-less and non-breathing, suffering from severe head injuries," stated United Hatzalah medics Tami Meisharim and Chava Cohen. "We performed resuscitation maneuvers on him, but unfortunately, at the end of the resuscitation efforts, his death was pronounced at the scene."
Magen David Adom paramedic Nadav Taub and medic Oriya Zegman similarly reported on the immediate medical interventions provided to both passengers following the crash.
"When we arrived at the scene of the accident, we noticed a 21-year-old young man unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing after flipping over with the ATV," Taub and Zegman stated. "After medical tests, we had to declare his death on the spot. Simultaneously, we provided medical treatment to another passenger from the ATV, a young man who was fully conscious and suffered minor injuries to his limbs. We evacuated him to the hospital with his condition defined as light."
Sher was the son of Rabbi Avraham Harel, a gabbai at the Nesivos Shalom synagogue and a lecturer at Yeshivas Derech HaTorah in Bnei Brak. The incident occurred during the traditional Bein HaZmanim summer recess period, marking another tragic event alongside recent drowning incidents reported across the country.
According to statements provided to Kikar HaShabbat, local emergency services continue to urge caution during off-road recreational activities as community members gather to support the family during this time of heavy mourning.
