President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to Iran's government on Tuesday evening, shortly after U.S. forces struck Revolutionary Guard targets in southern Iran. The American president cautioned that any Iranian retaliation would be met with even more forceful military action.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump announced that U.S. forces were currently attacking Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz. He described the strikes as "extensive and powerful," explaining they were launched in response to Iran's failed attempt to lay naval mines in the strategic waterway, mines that he said have all been removed or destroyed, and to eight missiles Iran fired at a U.S. military base in Jordan, all of which were successfully intercepted.
Trump then delivered an escalating threat to Tehran. "If the failed nation of Iran responds to this very justified attack, it will be attacked again, and this time with much harder and higher intensity," he wrote. "But even that will not be the biggest attack of all. The biggest attack is still waiting, and when it is finished, very little will remain of the Islamic Republic of Iran!"
