Federal prosecutors on Thursday released dramatic new high-resolution surveillance video showing Cole Tomas Allen, the 31-year-old California man charged with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
The footage captures Allen casing the Washington Hilton hotel the day before the April 25 event, then storming a Secret Service checkpoint armed with a shotgun and knives on the night of the dinner. In one clip, Allen is seen sprinting through security, firing at a Secret Service officer (who was saved by his ballistic vest), before being tackled by agents.
But, just before that, a K-9 dog snifs out the gunman right away and goes after him. The handler, holding the leash, ignores it and walks in the other direction. And that's when the shooter runs out with a weapon in his hands
