Harry and Meghan Planning UK Return

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly preparing to spend significant time in Britain starting this fall, with their children enrolled in British schools, potentially reshaping family dynamics

More than six years after relocating to California, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to return to Britain with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for an extended stay beginning this fall. According to reports in both British and American media, the children have already been enrolled in British schools and are expected to start the academic year in September.

A source close to the Sussex family indicated that the family will not reside in a royal residence but rather in a private home outside London. At the same time, Harry and Meghan are expected to maintain their Montecito, California home and their vacation property in Portugal, suggesting this move is not necessarily a permanent return to Britain.

The return comes six years after Harry and Meghan stepped back from their roles as working members of the royal family and moved to the United States. Since then, they have maintained a turbulent relationship with the monarchy, sharing personal details about their lives and relationships with family members, turning their departure into one of the most significant crises the British royal family has faced in recent decades.

Now, after years of distance, the couple is expected to spend a substantial period in Britain. Harry has expressed a desire in recent months to reconcile with his family, with his relationship with his father, King Charles III, playing a significant role in the background.

Charles was informed of the couple's plans on Sunday. Last month, Harry, Meghan and their children already visited Britain, during which the King met Archie and Lilibet. This marked the first time the children had seen their grandfather since 2022.

Harry has not directly confirmed the reports. When asked about the relocation plans during an event in Washington, he responded: "There's nothing to say." Both Buckingham Palace and representatives for Harry and Meghan have declined to comment officially.

One of the major questions surrounding the return concerns the relationship with Prince William. While the connection between Harry and his father appears to have undergone some process of rapprochement over the past year, there are no clear signs of reconciliation between the two brothers.

The return to Britain may make encounters between the two more unavoidable. Royal commentator Peter Hunt said that in the short term, the move could allow Harry to deepen his relationship with his father, but simultaneously, his renewed presence in Britain could make it harder for William to continue avoiding either confrontation or reconciliation.

The security issue is also expected to continue following Harry and his family. The prince has waged a prolonged legal battle with the British government over the decision not to automatically provide him and his family with police protection during their visits to the country. Harry has argued that due to his status and family, they require armed security.

Meghan is expected to continue managing her brand from Britain, while Harry will be able to devote more time to his charitable work in the country.

The move also places the family at the center of British public attention. Archie and Lilibet, who have grown up primarily in the United States, are now expected to spend a significantly larger portion of their lives in the country where their father and the royal family were born.

Despite the move, Harry and Meghan are not returning as full working royals. They will continue to live outside the official royal system, without public duties on behalf of the palace.

Nevertheless, their very return may reopen one of the greatest dramas in the British royal household: whether the years of estrangement have ended, and whether the move to Britain will make the path to reconciliation with the family—particularly with Prince William—more possible.
