Driver Stops Inches From Collapsed Bridge As Rescuers Scream Stop! Back Up!

A pickup truck driver in Colorado came within feet of plunging into a swollen river after approaching a bridge that had collapsed in severe flooding.

Video footage shows the truck moving toward a bridge over the Piedra River, sections of which had given way. A crew and a deputy sheriff at the scene spotted the vehicle and began waving their arms and shouting at the driver: "Stop! Back up!"

The driver managed to halt just short of the destroyed section, then reversed and drove away from the site.

According to authorities, the driver had passed a barricade set up by the Colorado Department of Transportation to prevent vehicles from reaching the damaged bridge. The bridge was closed to traffic following flood damage that struck the southwestern part of the state.
