Journalist and presenter Ayala Hasson will not continue at the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (Kan). The decision follows Hasson's refusal to comply with an ultimatum from Kan management demanding she apologise on air. Sources say Hasson is holding firm in her position, and the broadcaster has no intention of backing down from its demand, leading to the end of her tenure at the organisation.
Kan's news division informed the senior presenter that if she does not broadcast an explicit apology and clarification on air this evening, she will not be permitted to continue presenting her programme. The demand comes after sweeping statements about women in Bedouin society and unsubstantiated claims about widespread failures at polling stations in the Arab sector.
"These are not just sweeping, unsubstantiated and inaccurate statements, but ones that endanger the public's trust in Israel's election results and public broadcasting cannot take part in them," Kan management said. "The demand is to publish a clarification and apology in wording acceptable to the news division, and if she refuses, she will not be able to broadcast."
