A political controversy surrounding Yair Golan, chairman of Israel's Democrats party, is intensifying after he decided not to guarantee activist Einav Zangauker a safe spot on the party's Knesset list. The latest voice joining the criticism comes from veteran Israeli broadcaster and television host Amnon Levy.
In a pointed Facebook post, Levy sharply criticized how Golan handled the matter. "Yair Golan failed. Big time," Levy wrote at the opening of his statement.
Levy went on to articulate what he sees as a basic expectation from those seeking national leadership: "After long years under a leader who lies and cannot be trusted, it's fair to demand that whoever wants to replace him keeps his word. Period."
The broadcaster concluded with a direct appeal to the Democrats chairman to reverse his decision and honor the commitment reportedly made to Zangauker, a prominent figure in Israel's protest movement: "It's not too late to fix this. You promised Einav Zangauker? Keep it."
