New details have emerged regarding an alleged assassination attempt targeting Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while he was staying in Miami. In a formal complaint submitted to Israel's police commissioner, the head of the Shin Bet security service, and the attorney general, Netanyahu claims that a terror cell operating under Iranian intelligence direction reached the entrance of the residence where he was staying.
The complaint was filed as part of Netanyahu's demand to open a criminal and security investigation against Haaretz journalist Uri Misgav. Netanyahu alleges that Misgav published online information about his Miami address, the security arrangements protecting him, and his movement patterns, and that this information reached hostile actors who used it to facilitate an attack.
"Following those publications, and relying on them directly, terrorists dispatched by Iranian intelligence physically reached the entrance of the residence at the address in question in Miami, and carried out a sudden and targeted assassination attempt against Yair Netanyahu," the complaint states.
According to the letter, Shin Bet security personnel accompanying Netanyahu were forced to confront an Iranian terror cell, and it was only through their resourcefulness, he claims, that the targeted assassination attempt was thwarted.
Netanyahu's attorney, Uriel Nizri, is demanding that authorities open an investigation against Misgav and even arrest him, arguing that the publications provided the enemy with a "roadmap" and endangered both Netanyahu and his security detail.
In response, Uri Misgav stated: "Yair Netanyahu/Yonatan Hon and his parents are failing in all the legal proceedings they insist on pursuing against me. Just this week Yair lost another proceeding and was ordered to pay legal costs. I understand they are under pressure after the exposure of yet another fake story, this time about the 'assassination attempt' and the 'urgent evacuation' of Yair from Miami in December, when in fact, as I showed, he continued to spend time in Miami in January and February as well. But it makes no sense to continue bothering the police and Shin Bet with these frivolous complaints. They have enough work dealing with real threats."
