Ukraine braces for escalation

Zelensky warns of major Russian attack

Ukrainian president says intelligence points to large-scale Russian strike in the coming days: I call on everyone, protect yourselves and heed the sirens

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Tuesday evening that intelligence indicates Russia is preparing a large-scale attack in the coming days. In his remarks, he called on the Ukrainian public to take precautions and vowed to respond to any Russian strike.

"We have current intelligence information that Russia is preparing for a large-scale attack, on an unprecedented scale," Zelensky said. "I call on everyone, protect yourselves, and make sure to heed the sirens."

"Ukrainian forces and our air force are prepared to respond with all our strength, in accordance with the defensive capabilities at our disposal," he added.

Zelensky went on to appeal to world leaders to provide Ukraine with defensive equipment. "Our ability to respond depends greatly on our partnerships, on every leader and every country in the world that holds the defense systems we need, and that can supply them to us," he explained. "It is also critical that there be political readiness for this, especially from the United States, Europe and other partners."

"The world is bigger than Russian evil, and the defense of human life must be a joint effort," he concluded. "I thank everyone who is with us, and everyone who truly helps all of Ukraine."
