Hospital Wedding and Acts of Kindness

From a couple who moved their wedding to a hospital ward so the bride's mother could attend, to strangers who quietly changed lives with generosity

Michal and her mum

Michal and Tal had planned their wedding for the following year. Then circumstances changed everything. Michal's mother, Chana, was hospitalized in the surgical intensive care unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, requiring continuous oxygen support.

The young couple faced a choice: proceed with their original plans, or find a way to ensure Chana could be present for one of the most important moments of her daughter's life. They chose the latter, deciding to move up the wedding date and transform the hospital into their wedding venue.

Working with Shaare Zedek's medical teams and the respiratory care unit, staff found a solution that allowed Chana to leave the ward briefly. She was connected to a portable oxygen device with a long-lasting battery, and medical personnel accompanied her to the hospital's family area.

There, surrounded by relatives, Michal and Tal shared the moment they had wanted so desperately to include her in.

This wasn't the wedding the couple may have dreamed about for years. Yet precisely because of the circumstances, it became a wedding with special meaning, one that demonstrates how sometimes the most moving aspect isn't the venue where you stand under the chuppah (wedding canopy), but who stands there with you.

During a difficult period, Chana was able to be present for her daughter, and Michal was able to have her mother witness a moment that cannot be reclaimed.

An elderly man arrived at a repair shop this week with his old mobility scooter, hoping it might still be salvageable. The scooter was in poor condition, and the damage exceeded what he could afford to repair.

The shop owner listened to his story and told him not to worry. He promised to see what could be done and asked him to return later.

What happened next was something the elderly customer apparently never expected.

When he came back, he discovered that instead of attempting to repair the old scooter, the business owner had decided to purchase a completely new mobility scooter for him, with his own money. No invoice, no conditions, and without asking for anything in return.

Rather than being left with an old device that was barely functional, the man received the ability to continue moving around safely, comfortably, and with dignity. For an elderly person who relies on a scooter to get from place to place and maintain independence, this represents a potentially significant change in daily life.

Credit is due to the seller who chose to open both his heart and his wallet to create this moving surprise.

Yuval and her mother entered a Castro clothing store at a Haifa shopping mall on Thursday afternoon. Among the racks, they noticed a young blind man being assisted by one of the saleswomen in selecting clothes.

The saleswoman didn't simply offer advice, she patiently accompanied him, helped him choose suitable items, and stayed with him all the way to the register.

When it came time to pay, the amount proved too high for his budget. The saleswoman immediately returned with him to select a different option that would fit what he could afford, without making him feel uncomfortable.

His credit card was declined. He tried another card, it too was rejected. The young man began trying to understand what had happened and sort out the situation.

What he didn't know was that at that moment, one of the saleswomen took 200 shekels from her own pocket and quietly paid for him, without anyone seeing and without his knowledge.

A moment later, he was told there had been a glitch at the register and that the payment had gone through. He smiled, expressed his happiness and gratitude, and left the store, unaware that behind the scenes were several women who simply chose to do a good deed.

Only after he left did the saleswomen break down and cry from emotion.

What's most moving about this story isn't just the money. It's the way they did it, without humiliating him, without embarrassing him, without taking away his independence, and without seeking credit. Quietly, without his hearing or seeing.
