Syria Coordination

Israel Shared Intel Before Syria Strikes

A senior Israeli official confirmed to Fox News that sensitive intelligence was passed to Washington ahead of strikes attributed to Israel, while noting Syria's new leader understands he cannot continue Assad-era policies

Israel Shared Intelligence with US Before Syria Strikes, Senior Official Says

A senior Israeli official confirmed to Fox News on Tuesday that Israel provided highly sensitive intelligence to the United States shortly before a wave of strikes in Syria that foreign reports attributed to the Israeli Air Force. According to the official, the information was delivered directly to the highest levels of US intelligence agencies and security bodies in Washington.

The official emphasized that close intelligence coordination between Israel and the United States has continued throughout the sensitive period following the fall of the Assad regime. The intelligence sharing included precise operational details transmitted in real time to relevant American officials, the source said.

Alongside the intelligence coordination, the senior official said Syria's new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known by his nom de guerre Jolani, clearly understands the new reality on the ground. "He knows he will not be allowed to continue the policies of the previous regime and provide safe haven for proxy forces operating in his territory," the official stressed.

The statement comes against the backdrop of unusually sharp American criticism of the strikes attributed to Israel. Tom Barrack, the US president's envoy to Syria and Turkey, claimed that "the al-Sharaa government has not adopted a predatory position and has not harbored proxy forces," calling the strikes "unnecessary escalation."

The intelligence coordination report follows coverage in Arab media outlets of four airstrikes carried out at the Abu al-Duhur military airfield in Idlib province, approximately 70 kilometers from the Turkish border. The strikes precisely targeted the base's runway.

The identity of the aircraft that carried out the strikes has not been officially confirmed, though Lebanon's Al Mayadeen channel, which is affiliated with the Hezbollah terror organization, raised the possibility that Israel was behind the operation. Israeli authorities did not comment on the reports, in keeping with standard policy.

In recent months, a series of extensive military operations in Syrian territory have been reported. Among them was a significant raid by elite forces on military bases on the outskirts of Damascus, during which dozens of soldiers were deployed by helicopters and fighter jets.

Additionally, the Israel Defense Forces struck several Syrian regime tanks moving toward al-Suwayda in southern Syria, aiming to disrupt their advance into the area. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated at the time that "we will not allow harm to come to the Druze in Syria", referring to the Druze minority community in southern Syria.

Tension between Israel and the new regime in Damascus continues to build, with Israel acting to prevent hostile elements from establishing themselves in Syrian territory, while the Trump administration seeks to give the new regime an opportunity to prove it does not pose a threat.
