American-Israeli citizen from Satmar community indicted for espionage, accused of tracking IDF generals and security officials for Iran in exchange for payment.

The State Prosecutor’s Office has filed a severe indictment against Yaakov Peretz, a 49-year-old American citizen with Israeli citizenship, on charges including espionage and aiding the enemy during wartime.

Peretz, who reportedly identifies with the Satmar Hassidic community and opposes the State of Israel on ideological grounds, allegedly operated for months under an Iranian agent after offering his services via Telegram, according to Kikar Hashabbat News.

He received at least $15,000 for intelligence missions, which included:

Peretz also documented infrastructure across Israel and attempted to recruit partners for the Iranian mission. The indictment states Peretz actively advised his handlers on improving missions and declared his intent to continue spying, even from prison.

He faces charges of aiding the enemy during wartime and delivering intelligence intended to harm state security.
