Jewish actress Selma Blair, 54, was arrested at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York after allegedly assaulting crew members aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles.
The incident took place on Delta Flight 938 on Sunday night. According to TMZ, Blair allegedly tried to open the aircraft’s door while the plane was in the air, then punched one flight attendant and bit another.
Two flight attendants were injured, one of whom was taken to the hospital, according to a law enforcement source quoted by CBS New York. The source said the crew had to restrain Blair.
In air traffic control audio, the pilot requested medical personnel at the gate and reported “a bloody nose as well as some bite marks.” He said the passenger had “bashed her head on the bulkhead or something like that.”
Port Authority police responded when the plane landed at around 11 p.m., and the FBI said it was looking into a “potential assault” on board.
Blair was taken to Jamaica Hospital for evaluation. According to the law enforcement source, she allegedly kicked a Port Authority officer in the ambulance and assaulted a nurse at the hospital. TMZ reported that she was charged with two counts of assault related to those incidents.
Blair’s attorney said she “experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct,” adding that she received medical attention upon landing and is in stable condition.
Delta said it “has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first.” The airline said the flight landed ahead of schedule and was not operationally affected.
Blair is known for her roles in “Legally Blonde,” “Cruel Intentions” and “Hellboy.”
