Popular Israeli band Hatikva 6 faced brief police detention in Dimona following a performance, with officers issuing citations for seat belt violations amid controversy.

Members of the popular Israeli band Hatikva 6 were briefly detained by traffic police in Dimona on Sunday night following a performance in the southern city. According to police, two passengers in the group’s vehicle were spotted without seat belts, resulting in safety citations.

The stop occurred as the band was leaving the city to return to central Israel. Police officers pulled over the group’s van, conducted several checks, and issued two tickets for failure to wear seat belts. The band was released shortly afterward.

In a statement, Israel Police emphasized the importance of road safety, noting that “failure to wear a seat belt can lead to fatal consequences.”

The incident came the same night rapper Stilla, who had also performed in Dimona with fellow artist Nes, publicly criticized police conduct. In a post on social media, Stilla claimed officers appeared to be “looking for something” to cite, adding that they inspected the minibus for tinted windows after finding all passengers belted. He accused police of unnecessarily prolonging the stop and of “ruining the evening” for the performers.

Stilla clarified that he does not generalize about all officers, saying he has met “amazing police officers” during his career. However, he described the behavior of the officers involved in this incident as “exactly the reason people think what they think about the police, bullies in uniform.”

Hatikva 6, one of Israel’s best-known bands, is currently on a nationwide tour, performing in cities and towns across the country.
