The Northern District Prosecutor’s Office filed a severe indictment this morning at the Nazareth District Court against Ahmad Abu al-Rub, a 34-year-old resident of Qabatiya, for a brutal multi-stage terror attack that left two dead and several injured exactly one month ago.

According to the joint investigation by the Northern District Police (YAMAR) and the Shin Bet, the terrorist illegally entered Israel through the Jerusalem area several days before the attack. He secured employment at a construction site in the town of Mesilot, hired by a 45-year-old resident of Arraba for a daily wage of 650–700 NIS.

On the morning of the attack, around 5:30 AM, Abu al-Rub traveled to the site with his employer. While working on a private home, he resolved to carry out a murderous spree. He armed himself with a knife and a screwdriver stolen from the construction site and stole his employer’s vehicle to begin his assault.

The indictment details a calculated route of violence:

Beit She’an: The terrorist first drove to Beit She’an, where he intentionally rammed and killed Shimshon Mordechai (68) and lightly injured a 16-year-old boy.

Tel Yosef Junction: He then fled toward Highway 71. At the Tel Yosef Junction, he crashed into a stationary car and exited the vehicle brandishing the stolen knife. He chased two young people, reaching 18-year-old Aviv Maor, whom he stabbed repeatedly. Despite medical efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly after.

Afula: Continuing his rampage, Abu al-Rub reached the Me'onot Junction in Afula. He spotted a 37-year-old pedestrian, veered off the road to strike him, and left him in moderate-to-serious condition.

The killing spree was only halted when an alert citizen at the scene in Afula recognized the unfolding terror, engaged the attacker, and neutralized him until security forces arrived.

Broader Legal Consequences

The legal fallout extends beyond the attacker himself. In addition to the primary indictment against Abu al-Rub, prosecutors have filed charges against:

The case has reignited a fierce national debate regarding the oversight of Palestinian laborers and the security risks posed by illegal stayers (Shabachim) entering through the Jerusalem seam line.
