A seven-year-old boy was critically injured Sunday afternoon when he was struck by a bus while riding his bicycle in Bnei Brak, a predominantly ultra-Orthodox city near Tel Aviv, and became trapped beneath the vehicle.
Emergency services received the first reports of the accident around 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ezra Street and Rabbi Kahaneman Street. Multiple ambulance crews from Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's national emergency medical service, and United Hatzalah, a volunteer-based organization, rushed to the scene.
Responders arrived to find the child pinned under the bus, unconscious and suffering from severe multi-system trauma. The boy had sustained serious injuries to his abdomen, limbs and head.
Working together, paramedics and emergency medical technicians carefully freed the child from beneath the vehicle. Once extracted, he was placed in an intensive care ambulance and transported urgently to the trauma unit at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, one of Israel's leading hospitals.
United Hatzalah volunteers Akiva Kaufman, Yisrael Selev and Nachman Aharoni, who provided initial assistance, noted that witness accounts indicated the boy was struck while cycling and immediately became trapped under the public transit vehicle. They emphasized that the rapid medical intervention at the scene was critical to his initial stabilization.
