Teen’s AI Terror Plot
ChatGPT’s Dark Side: Teen Used AI to Plan Police Stabbing
A 16-year-old from Tira faces charges for attempting a terrorist attack on a police officer, having used ChatGPT to plan the act. The incident highlights the alarming potential for AI misuse in fueling lone-wolf terrorism driven by nationalist motives.

Israel’s State Attorney’s Office filed an indictment in the Lod District Juvenile Court against a 16-year-old from Tira, accused of attempting to stab a police officer at a local police station in a planned terrorist attack, as reported by Ynet. The teen allegedly used OpenAI’s ChatGPT to research methods for carrying out the attack, highlighting a disturbing misuse of artificial intelligence in terror planning. The indictment, presented by Attorney Tali Karat from the Central District Prosecutor’s Office, charges the minor with attempting serious bodily harm under aggravated circumstances, classified as an act of terrorism.
According to the indictment, the teen formulated his plan as “revenge for Operation Iron Swords,” Israel’s military response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack. As part of his preparations, he consulted ChatGPT to explore ways to execute a terrorist attack, seeking advice on operational methods. Approximately two months ago, he armed himself with a 10-centimeter knife and walked to the Tira police station. Upon arrival, he stormed the compound, spotted a Border Police officer, drew the knife, shouted “Allahu Akbar,” and attempted to stab the officer. The attack was thwarted, and the teen was apprehended.
The prosecution has requested the minor’s detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings, citing the nationalist motive behind the incident. The request describes the event as part of a wave of “lone wolf terrorism,” which the prosecution notes is challenging to detect and prevent due to its individualized nature. This case raises significant concerns about the accessibility of AI tools like ChatGPT for malicious purposes, as they can provide detailed guidance without adequate safeguards.
