Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yesher party, responded Tuesday to the results of the Likud party's primary elections with sharp criticism of the winning slate. The former IDF chief of staff noted that the composition is virtually identical to those who held Knesset seats when the October 7 attacks occurred.
"No festive announcements or victory celebrations can hide the fact that the Likud list for the 26th Knesset is effectively the October 7 list," Eisenkot stated. He accused the elected members of dividing Israeli society without shame and blindly leading the country to its worst disaster since independence. Among them, he pointed out, are five members of what he termed "the failure cabinet" who served on the eve of the war and bear responsibility for what he called the most severe negligence imaginable.
Rather than accepting accountability, Eisenkot charged, they clung to power at any cost and compounded their failures by enabling mass draft evasion during wartime.
