600 Days After Son-in-Law’s Murder on October 7
Singer Shay-Li Atari's father dies of a broken heart
Israel mourns again. Dr. Yossi Atzmon, father of singer-filmmaker Shay-Li Atari (Atzmon-Wiener), has died from grief over the loss of his son-in-law, Yahav.

In a heartbreaking loss, Dr. Yossi Atzmon, 85, father of singer and filmmaker Shai-Lee Atzmon-Winner, passed away this morning from profound grief and a broken heart. His death comes exactly 600 days after the brutal murder of his son-in-law, Yahav Winner, Shai-Lee’s husband, who was killed on October 7, 2023, during Hamas’s terrorist attack on Kibbutz Kfar Aza.
Dr. Atzmon’s death follows the tragic loss of Yahav Wiener, who heroically sacrificed his life to save Shai-Lee and their one-month-old daughter, Shaya, during the Hamas assault. Yahav fought off terrorists who breached their home through a window, giving his family a chance to survive.

The weight of this loss proved unbearable for Dr. Atzmon, a nuclear engineering Ph.D. who dedicated his life to Israel’s security, continuing his work until three months ago. He leaves behind his wife, Aviva Atzmon, a 48-year supervisor of state high schools who retired last month, and their children: Shai-Lee, actress Yona Atzmon, singer Gali Atzmon, and the late radio broadcaster Shosh Atzmon.
Shai-Lee, known for her poignant song “In Our Garden,” mourned her father with raw emotion: “My father never recovered after October 7. He couldn’t bear that he, who devoted his entire life to Israel’s security, suffered such a tragedy in his own family. His body couldn’t withstand the grief.” In tears, she added, “Rest in peace, dear Dad. I love you with an eternal love. Hug Yahav up there for me too.”
Yahav Winner, posthumously honored with an Ophir Award for his film The Boy, left a legacy of courage and creativity.
May his memory be a blessing.
