An extraordinary celebration of survival and devotion has taken place following the devastating events of the regional war. Sapir Cohen and Sasha Trufanov, who were both abducted by Hamas terrorists during the October 7 assaults, have officially married. The emotional ceremony marks the culmination of a four-year relationship that was brutally interrupted by their prolonged captivity inside the Gaza Strip.
The couple, both thirty-one years old, were originally taken captive while visiting Sasha's parents at Kibbutz Nir Oz. Sapir was subjected to fifty-five days in captivity before being released during an earlier phase of negotiations. Following her return, she spent long months spearheading the public campaign and leading the Hostages Families Forum activities to secure the release of her partner. Sasha endured a grueling four hundred and ninety-eight days in captivity before finally returning home, after which he proposed to her the following July.
The wedding ceremony took place on Sunday evening in the city of Or Yehuda, drawing a unique group of attendees who shared their traumatic experiences. The guest list prominently featured fellow former captives and dedicated activists from the Hostages Families Forum who supported the couple throughout their ordeal. Among the deeply affected attendees were their close friends Eitan Horn, Ariel Cunio, and Arbel Yehud, who were also forcibly taken to the Gaza Strip by terrorists during the initial raid.
This joyful union represents a profound victory for the survivors as they continue to heal from the trauma inflicted by Hamas terrorists. The presence of so many individuals who lived through the same captivity transformed the venue into a powerful symbol of community resilience. As the new husband and wife begin their lives together in freedom, the event highlights the enduring human bonds that managed to survive the darkest chapters of the ongoing war.
