Major Espionage Case
Breaking: IDF Soldier in Givati Brigade Charged with Spying for Iran
A senior security official emphasized the gravity of the case, noting it as "one of the most serious espionage cases investigated so far."

Israeli security authorities have charged a combat soldier from the IDF's Givati Brigade with espionage on behalf of Iran, marking what officials describe as one of the most severe cases involving Iranian intelligence to date.
The suspect, who enlisted just over a year ago, was arrested in late September 2025 and has been held in custody for approximately four months during the ongoing investigation.
According to a joint probe by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), Israel Police, and the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division, the soldier allegedly initiated contact with Iranian intelligence operatives around July 2025.
In exchange for financial compensation, he reportedly carried out various tasks at their direction, including:
These actions are said to have potentially endangered his own brigade and broader Israeli security interests.
The arrest followed intelligence leads, and details were initially withheld under a sweeping gag order to protect the investigation. Yesterday, a court partially lifted the order, allowing publication of limited information.
The charges filed include contact with a foreign agent, delivering information to the enemy, impersonation, and obstruction of justice.
The soldier's identity remains undisclosed due to ongoing sensitivities. This incident comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, including recent U.S. threats of intervention in Iranian protests and mutual accusations of espionage.
Iranian authorities have also reported arresting individuals suspected of spying for Israel in recent weeks.
Authorities have not released further details on the soldier's motivations beyond financial gain, and the investigation continues under the oversight of the Defense Ministry.
