The Israeli military is pressing forward with intensive operations on the Ali Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, even as Tehran has issued threats of a major attack if the campaign continues in the area.
According to reports on Israel's Channel 12, security forces are maintaining high-intensity operations while tightening their siege on the fortified target. The objective is to completely eliminate Hezbollah's capabilities in the region and systematically dismantle the terror organization's "Badr" unit.
The Ali Taher ridge rises approximately 700 meters above sea level, reaching its peak near the Beaufort area. It creates a distinct geographical barrier between the Litani River to the east and the Nabatieh plateau to the west. Due to its strategic vantage point, offering observation and firing range over all major traffic arteries and access routes to Nabatieh, Hezbollah established its command position there.
As part of the operation, engineering and assault forces are neutralizing and destroying fortified compounds that were concealed over many years. Extensive portions of underground infrastructure have been demolished, with Israeli security officials identifying heavy casualties among numerous terrorists who remained inside the tunnels, alongside the flight of some operatives from the area.
The approach to the fortified underground network is being conducted carefully, using a method of gradual pressure escalation to minimize risk to Israeli soldiers. Several dozen terrorists remain besieged in the depths, and the IDF has clarified that the military possesses the tools and capabilities to fully overcome the compound once direct authorization is received from the political echelon.
Beyond the operational activity, Israeli security sources have made a significant assessment: Hezbollah is attempting to drag Iran into direct confrontation with Israel. The terror organization's efforts to expand the fighting come against the backdrop of severe losses it is suffering on the ridge and fears of losing its strategic strongholds.
Reuters news agency reported that Iran conveyed a warning to the United States that it would respond forcefully if Israel operates on the ridge, claiming that 12 Revolutionary Guard members, including two senior officers, are sheltering in the compound. The IDF has stated it is not aware of any Iranian presence at the location.
In response to the threats, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz made clear that an Iranian attack "would free Israel from all existing constraints" and lead to strikes on military and civilian infrastructure in Iran, including energy facilities. Katz added that "economic pressure and fear of internal uprising could push the Iranian regime to desperate measures," emphasizing that the IDF is prepared for all scenarios, both defensive and offensive.
