IDF Sergeant Niv Dayag, 19, killed in Golan Heights accident
A young IDF sergeant lost his life in a tragic car accident during operational activity in the Golan Heights, with three other soldiers injured. The incident is under investigation to determine its cause and prevent future occurrences.


Sergeant Niv Dayag, a 19-year-old soldier from Ramat HaSharon serving in the 890th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade, was tragically killed in a car accident during operational activity in the Golan Heights on Thursday, May 1, 2025, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced. The incident, which occurred near the Eliad Junction on Route 98 in the southern Golan, involved a Hummer jeep that collided with a guardrail, flipped over, and caught fire, according to military reports. Dayag’s death marks a somber addition to the IDF’s tally, raising the total number of soldiers killed on or since October 7, 2023, to 850.
Three other soldiers were injured in the crash. Two from the 890th Battalion of the Paratroopers Brigade and one from the 474th Brigade sustained light injuries. Magen David Adom paramedics, alerted at 7:50 PM, provided on-site treatment before evacuating the injured to a hospital for further care. The IDF has notified the families of all affected soldiers, offering support during this difficult time.
The circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation. The Commander of the Central Command, Major General Avi Bluth, and the Commander of the Northern Command, Major General Ori Gordin, have appointed a committee of experts, led by Colonel N., the Commander of the 11th Brigade, to thoroughly examine the incident. This review aims to determine the cause of the crash and identify measures to prevent future tragedies.
Sergeant Dayag’s death shows the risks faced by IDF personnel every single day as they serve to protect our country, even when they are outside of combat zones they face danger. The Paratroopers Brigade, known for its rigorous training and critical role in Israel’s defense, mourns the loss of a dedicated young soldier. The IDF continues to investigate to ensure accountability and enhance safety protocols for its forces.
