The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a targeted aerial strike this evening, Tuesday, on a Hamas terrorist training compound in Southern Lebanon. Lebanese reports indicate the attack resulted in at least 11 fatalities and four injuries, amid unconfirmed reports that the strike targeted a meeting of Hamas figures.

The IDF confirmed that the attack, spearheaded by the Northern Command and carried out by the Air Force, focused on a facility used by the Hamas terrorist organization in the Ein al-Hilweh refugee camp near Sidon, Southern Lebanon.

The Target and Casualties

The Israeli military stated that the facility was a "military compound used by Hamas terrorists for training and instruction to plan and execute terror attacks against IDF forces and the State of Israel." Intelligence suggested the location served as a coordination and planning center for local terrorist cells preparing future attacks, though most of the operatives present were reportedly low-ranking rather than senior leaders.

Initial reports from the Lebanese Health Ministry placed the casualty count at 11 dead and four wounded. Local Palestinian sources suggested that a meeting involving more than 20 individuals was taking place at the compound when the attack occurred.

Lebanese media, including the Al-Mayadeen channel, reported that the strike targeted a vehicle near a mosque and a car park using three missiles, with some local claims suggesting the missiles were launched from fighter jets.

IDF’s Commitment and Precautions

The IDF emphasized that every effort was made to minimize harm to civilians before carrying out the strike.

The Israeli military stated: "Prior to the attack, steps were taken to reduce the chance of civilian harm, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence information."

The IDF also made clear its ongoing strategic objective in the area, asserting: "The IDF is operating against the entrenchment of the Hamas terrorist organization in Lebanon and will continue to act powerfully against Hamas terrorists wherever they operate."

Following the strike, Hamas operatives reportedly imposed an extensive security cordon around the targeted compound in the Ein al-Hilweh camp, moving to distance civilians from the scene.

The strike marks the fourth Israeli operation reported in Lebanon today, following earlier reported UAV attacks on vehicles and infrastructure in the southern Lebanese villages of Blida and Bint Jbeil.
