IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir convened a high-level commanders forum Monday to mark 1,000 days since the October 7 massacre, delivering a sweeping intelligence, operational, and strategic assessment across all fronts as Israel stands at what he called a critical juncture in the war.

The forum opened in silence. Before any assessment was delivered, commanders observed a moment of remembrance, and a recording was played of Lt. Col. Asaf Hamami's radio transmission from the first moments of the Hamas assault on October 7, a haunting reminder of where this war began and what it has cost.

"We are holding here today an operational, intelligence, and multi-arena strategic assessment marking 1,000 days of war," Zamir told the assembled General Staff, division commanders, and senior officers. "We are in these days at a significant strategic crossroads in the campaign."

"One thousand days and one thousand nights in which we have been fighting one of the longest, most complex, and most demanding campaigns we have ever known. The combat leadership, decision-making, command presence, and the courage of fighters at the front, under fire and at the hardest decision points, are what led the IDF to victory on every front."

Zamir framed the war not merely as a military campaign but as an existential battle. "The October 7 attack was an attack on the very existence of the Jewish people. We remember the fallen, their heroism, and their families, alongside the physically and mentally wounded. That memory obligates us to keep changing, moving forward, and drawing and internalizing lessons in the regional race of learning."

He acknowledged the weight of public scrutiny, telling commanders that "the eyes of Israel's citizens are upon us, from criticism, from appreciation, and from great love," and called on the officer corps to serve as "a beacon of truth, humility, professionalism, and responsibility."

Zamir closed with a phrase that carried the weight of Jewish history behind it. "The wheat grows again, as it has throughout Jewish history, and it will continue to grow thanks to the commanders and soldiers of the IDF. The responsibility now is ours."
